MBNA failed to carry out my balance transfer on time

Hi folks,

I wonder what you think about this - on 23/10/06 I applied for an MBNA card as I knew that on 7/11/06 (15 days later) my 0% introductory rate with Nationwide would expire. As part of my online application I submitted details of the required balance transfer (bank, account number and amount) and was lead to believe that this would be processed, should my application succeed. I was approved, and this week (1/11/06) I received my card.

I telephone to activate the card straight away, and asked about how my balance transfer was progressing. I was told that the credit department had not yet loaded it ("I don't know why they haven't done it" were the customer service advisor's words) and that it would take 6 working days to reach the Nationwide account.

It now looks like I will have to pay 2-3 days' interest on my Nationwide account, all because MBNA were slow off the mark. It's really annoying, because my initial application was made well in advance of the Nationwide deadline.

Do others have experience of this?

Thanks

NT.

To be honest, you were hoping for a lot there.

Whilst I've previously been 'up and running' in 2 weeks, this is (IME) by far the exception - not the rule.

Best practice seems to be to start researching your next card 6-8 weeks before, and making your application 4-6 weeks before, your present card's 0% expiry date.

Well, I will see what happens. The outgoing payment from my MBNA account is showing online, so maybe it will credit the Nationwide account earlier than expected.

I will still follow it all up with the MBNA customer service department, because I do feel the service has been below par.

I think you are being a little OTT. You applied for a card a week and a half ago, and they have already started the balance transfer. I think that is excellent service. I have applied for credit cards before and had to wait sometimes up to 1 month before I even get a card. If you apply for a new card to clear a balance transfer, you should always apply at least 4-6 weeks before your rate is due to expire.

It can take up to 28 days for the card to arrive so you were hoping a bit there. Dont think you will get any refunds tbh unless you fax in your bill and cause a huff. When this is really your error it ups to you whether you do it for the sake of not allowing enough time :)
