IBM/Lenova Laptop

Any views on this one from Morgan Computers it looks a bargain! Though I vaguely recall from bad feedback on this site about this supplier. I need a cheap robust laptop for meetings, email, the BBC iplayer and other uses but main thing is omething robust for doing long reports.

It does look fairly good! Note that it's not the same Morgan Computers from a year or so back, because they were taken over by Bentham Ltd, who also own IJT Direct. (Incidentally the quality of the latter's replacement ink and toner cartridges seems to have been deteriorating over the last few years...)

I've just spotted in the specification what you might regard as a fatal flaw - it has a US keyboard...

    It's also secondhand!

    And its £200 for a laptop with a Core2Duo CPU. A new Thinkpad Z61T was $1500.

FWIW, they're built like tanks so other than the battery you should have no issues other than the US keyboard. You can get a UK spec keyboard off Ebay for around £20 and they are held in by 4 screws.

Silly question why a fatal flaw?? Is it the ££ sign??

Ugh! I paid well over £1,000 for mine when it was new.

They're not actually the best Thinkpads ever made, to be honest and mine has had a few 'issues' (notably heat related). But it is still a hundred times more robust than the average Acer and the like and at that price (US keyboard is easy to get round) it looks like a good buy

I might even get one for spares.

If you are used to the UK keyboard layout you will be annoyed by the different positioning of ", @ and so on - have a look at these diagrams and observe the difference in location of special characters. And that you will have to produce the £ sign via something like Insert Symbol or Alt+156, etc.

If you are not too fazed by this, then it is probably worth going for, as Messrs Badger and Hammyman indicate!
