Kids Party Games inspiration please...

I've decided to host my DS birthday party at home this year and have about 25 kids(aged 6-8) so need some party game ideas. It is going to be a Horrid Henry party but there will be boys and girls. I'd like to do some different games - what do you usually do please? I'd love some inspiration.

Thanks.

Since we almost needed a paramedic for one child who jumped from the top of the stairs to the bottom, we have always either rented the church hall or gone out!! You are soo brave.

Poker faces? (Nothing to do with Lady Gaga!) - Basically you split the group into teams (could have Boys v Girls if you had an equal number, otherwise doesn't matter) and play some music. After an unspecified time you stop the music, shout out a team name and that team has to try and make members of the other team laugh or smile or in some way move their face (involuntary movements like sneezing, coughing obviously exempt). Each person who doesn't keep a straight face gives the other team a point. Have as many goes as you like and the winning team is the one with the most points.

LOL, 'tis the sole reason I am considering this ridiculous idea..... We thought about a hall but said we might as well just save the money and do it here. My DS has autism and ADHD so the house is pretty much 'unbreakable' and we have split stairs and staur gates so it will not be an issue really. I hope, LOL.

I am having a joint party with my friend and we have talked about having it on a Friday night because the kids will probably be knackered.

DS was not too impressed to start with but he has come round to the idea about having a gross Horrid Henry party. I just bought 24 pots of Horrid Henry 'slime' with insects in - £12.99 on eBay including postage.

I wanted to do some good games - I found one where you string hula hoops onto string and put them across the room and the 2 teams have to eat the hula hoops off - that is different, not seen that before, so doing that.

I also thought I might get some jelly baff and have a game where they have got to retrieve things from it.....

Now just to fill the other hour and 15 minutes.....

With that many children it will probably take a while to do a few games.

How about the usual games.. parce the parcel, musical statues.. and the best one sleeping lions :)

I inherited a brilliant 1970's Good Housekeeping party book.

One of my favourites was stations, each child was labelled a station. You blindfold one child in the middle of the children who should be standing in a circle and then call out 2 stations ( usually opposite each other) who have to swap places without being caught by the person in the middle. If they are caught they are then blind folded and have to do the catching.

Another was cats and dogs. You divide the teams into 2 and hide 2 different coloured sweets over the house. The cats might be red sweets ( foiled sweets work well) and the dogs green. Each team has a leader who has a cup and the entire team runs off to find the sweets. If they see a sweet, they are not allowed to touch them but have to bark or miaow until the team leader gets there to put them in a team pot. If you set a time with a stop watch the team can then divvy up the booty at the end.

Kim's game is a good one if you need a wind down, passing the orange between the chin, or balloons between knees is also fun.

I will try and think of some more later :)

  • We do egg and spoon arces too (but in a church hall not sure if the living room will be big enough). I get them all to decorate the eggs with felt tips and then we have a few races.

I'm loving the sound of the hoola hoops game I might give that a try for DD's party in Feb :)
  • if horrid henry is your theme you could have lots of plastic worms, spiders etc. Def use the slime stuff for bogies. It's all yucky with him isn't it. We were watching it the other day and they were puking and farting! Lovely for my 5 yr old DD!!
