BT compensation for delay in connecting phone line?

I have heard that BT pay compensation per day if there is a delay connecting the phone line, can anyone tell me where I can find some info on this and how I go about getting it or do they do it automatically?

We signed up to a BT broadband and calls package which included line connection a while ago. An engineer came a month ago to connect the line but said there was a problem with the telephone pole outside which would need to be sorted before we could be connected. After about a week we had another call to say they would come and connect on the 30th but they then phoned again to cancel and we are now waiting for them to phone to say when they will connect us.

It is a nuisance having to wait, especially seeing as I am having to pay for mobile broadband from vodaphone as we don't have actual broadband. We paid in advance for the broadband and calls package for the year as it worked out cheaper that way and they have already taken the money :(
