I think this is the right place to post this...?

I stumbled across a new website which prints greetings cards from images and captions created by its users; www.spottedrichard.com.

Basically if someone uploads a funny picture or captions on an existing photo and it is chosen for print, they will earn a 5% commission on profits from sales for as long as the card is in print. It would appear that a steady supplementary income could be collected for a number of years if the site takes off.

I had a go a month or so back and my photo was selected, it’s great to see it in print and the commission is now starting to come in!

Obviously there’s no guarantee you’ll make any money, but there’s also nothing to lose by trying and much to gain. And it’s a laugh creating captions...

Thanks for this. As you said, it could bring in a few quid now and then.

By the way, your link isn't working. Here is a new one

Since I replied, I have sent in quite a few captions.
I also sent in a few photographs and one of mine are now up there waiting for captions!

I wonder how long it takes them to decide which captions to choose
  • A picture is waiting a caption of a picture I uploaded of my german shepherd. Would love if this got printed? Trying hard to think of captions

I've been looking at the German Shepard one for a while trying to think of something!
Mine is the goats in the cage. I actually uploaded others which imo were better than that one

I got in contact with them before I first posted as I was a little wary and they explained how it all worked.

Basically you will know whether your caption or photo has been used because they send you an email to confirm the use of your caption or photo prior to print. You essentially hand over official copy-write so it can be used. Also, you then see the card appear in the Buy Cards section. You will then receive a statement of sales on that particular card allowing for any trade discounts and VAT. You essentially get 5% of the net sales. I've received my first payment :T

I should think it'll be a couple of months yet before the next batch are chosen printed...

Not sure why they would need copyright (copy-write) in your picture. I would be very suspicious of anyone who insisted on you giving them copyright in a picture they wanted to use.

Any photographs you take are yours. You own the copyright so you always need to give permission for them to be used by a third party.
If there are other people in the photo, they also need to grant permission for reprint.

Completely agree but their terms and conditions suggest to me that if they accept a picture then they get copyright in that picture, the photographer is agreeing to this by submitting pictures.
