  • Hi again
Since i fixed the cable 3 days ago. and also fitted the new (NTE2005.NTE 2005. NTE 2000.NTE2000.OPENREACH.BT.ADSL) wall socket i have been testing at different times of the day/night and i am getting the same speed approx at all times... I am now getting between 6.54meg to 6.74 megwith a PING fo 46ms.. which was at 7.11pm tonight..

If it stays like this i will be happy as as far as i know this is the fastest speed my line will go... until we get fiber optics :)

PS: I would still like TalkTalk to replace the line as i would imagine it will break again farther up the cable... I have found out my neighbors cables are going the same way too so it is the old cables cracking at the corners.

I hope my posts will helps other peolpe in my area with the same problem..

    thanks to all :)

PS: Thanks to Stephen from TalkTalK for his kind offer of help, not many companys have somebody that will offer help in forums.
  • Good to hear progress is being made. Are you still experiencing the crackling/hissing on the phone?

nardo - it sounds like you've been fixing the part of the line that BTOR are responsible for, i.e. BEFORE your master socket. If that's the case, you want to be a bit careful as legally you're not supposed to touch it. I suggest that, if & when you get a BTOR person out to your line, you claim complete ignorance of having touched it :)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
  • all wireing to the MASTER socket is BT's property. you are not supposed to touch it. BT can easily now look at your temp wiring and say thats its caused by human interfierance and will charge you the normal fee. it will be easily spotted as a fresh repair due to silicone being frsh and no algea on it or discolour, fresh solder. you were best leaving it all alone and requesting an enginear who with your guidance could have spotted the brake/fray, and replaced it.
  • Hello, I'm amazed how frightened people appear to be of bt and `their wiring.` It's your house, do what you want in it. You are not supposed to enter the master socket except for the bottom half test socket. Stuff that, I'll do what I want. If I choose to move the master so be it. What if you accidentally damage the m/s. Get them out with a charge of £150 plus, I think not. On a domestic bt line only two wires entering the house do anything usually orange and white, the rest are duds. In an emergency simply wire them into terminals 2 and 5, plug your phone in and away you go. I've seen electricians use domestic wiring to run a phone line and it works.
  • I hope you didn't go replacing the Master socket. Any other form of socket is not the same as a BT master socket and they cannot be interchanged.

its a criminal offence to tamper with any of BT's equipment including upto the master socket!

    BT can enforce this offence.

they can, charge you for any works carried out parts labour vat due to your own DIY.

they can cut your service *as you have breached their terms caused them and inconvenience and refuse to reconnect your line.

take you to court and charge for repairs vat, parts and labour.

it also put a new homeowner at a dis-advantage of having to pay BT to fit a new line and fit a new master socket.

We all mess with them once in out life time (the socket) but then that puts us at a dis advantage when it goes wrong.

the wire colours are not all the same and not only have 2 wires entering every prop.

i have numerous wires coming into my master 2 are connected yes but are blue, blue and white. others are orange, orange and white red,red and white, grey, black and white. my next door neighbours wires are the grey, black and white connected and others not connected are same as mine. so not every home is on the same wireing blue print.

using dometic wireing? confused! do you mean the same wireing as light switches, if so the greater that dometic line the weaker the signal to the phone and hampers BB signal as the wireing gauge will be greater than the phone wire gauge.

smaller the gauge more stronger the signal is carried.

larger the gauge weaker the signal as the signal has to occupy more cable mass in order to travel.
  • Hi again
I agree with SpottedRay... If people had bothered to read my post properly properly, i fitted a brand new (NTE2005.NTE 2005. NTE 2000.NTE2000.OPENREACH.BT.ADSL) <<< see it says Openreach BT ADSL Socket and also the latest BT Phone wiring supplied by company who do work for BT...

I DON'T !!!!!!! CARE if it's a bit of BT wiring as i'm not waiting weeks for a engineer to fit a bit of wire and then maybe charge me £150 ripoff... And another thing... IF I CHOOSE TO MOVE anything including a little BT socket in MY HOUSE i will do so and nobody will tell me i cannot. OK..

If BT or whoever tries to take me to court i will most enjoy meeting them in court... I have kept copies of all the Phone calls to TALKTALK over the last month when they said the had elevated it to BT engineer to check the line... WELL after a month of phone calls why didn't BT just send a engineer to look at the line and then he would have seen that the line was cracked.... also i will PRODUCE my BT RECEIPT which a BT engineer gave me for said work... he he I'm not daft you know..... anyway if it goes again who's to say that some tree branch did not fall and yank it from my window....

AGAIN I agree with SpottedRay.... I have noticed EVER SINCE 911 everybody in the bloody country is scared to SAY/DO anything in case it offends someone... I'm SCOTTISH and proud of it as WE are a tuff lot and not scared of anyone and say what we think...where's your ball people :)..... if you don't like what i write TUFF.... :)

BT OPENREACH are rubbish and NOT doing as the say they are.. The UK should have one of the best phone/broadband networks in the world.. BUT as usual the bigwigs at the top have been and still are creaming off money for themselves just like the Banks, MP, etc...should i say more..... just look at the millions the are spending on TV adverts.. Bah! another backhander to somebody.. :)

PS: MY BROADBAND IS STILL WORKING PEREFECTLY.. :)

    opp's hit caplock by mistake...

thaks again to all that posted..
