URGENT HELP PLEASE - dvd writer

I purchased a lite-on dvd multi-region dvd writer yesterday. Have installed it and the first time I used it have copied onto a disc successfully.

I am now trying to use it again, but keep getting the following message. It will not allow me to access/copy/write any data to the "E" drive. I can read the files though!

"Not accessible" "Incorrect Function"

What has happened? Any ideas please?

I'm desperate to know what the problem is. Cannot get hold of svp to enquire about it.

Are you trying to use the same disc you have already written to?

As you say you can read the files this is what it sounds like. Are you sure it is an RW disc and that you did not "close" it to stop it being written over.

If it is an R disc, you cannot write to them more than once.

They are +RW discs and I've used different ones just in case one of the discs is caput. But the same thing keeps happening!

I can't even copy anything over onto it!

Usually when this happens to me I can't read the files either. I always end up resorting to turning my machine off and then back on. It always seems to be fine when it comes back up after this re-boot, at least until the next time it goes wrong.

That might be worth a try for now until someone with a bit more knowledge comes along.

Done that .... no difference
  • Which application are you using to record to the drive?

In My Computer, does the drive show as a DVD-RW drive or as a CD-ROM drive?

Right-click the drive, click Properties, on the Recording tab make sure 'Enable CD recording on this drive' is ticked.

It WASN'T ticked! I've now ticked it!

Could that have been the problem? I haven't tested it out yet! I'll let you know.

    Thanks for that!

    It works!:j

Thanks so much Chippy! You wouldn't like to come and live with me would you? :rotfl: :D

Just out of curiosity, how come it wasn't ticked? It must have been ticked in the first place when I did my first copy onto it, how come it came off?

    Thanks again Chippy!

Just as an aside, my DVD rewriter shows up as a CD-ROM drive. Does it matter???

For XP, Microsoft bought the cut down version of the writer software from roxio, which doesn't support DVD writing (without buying roxio/nero etc.), so that may be why..

Too scared of putting other companies out of business, so you get half baked writing software, and half baked zip support.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
