Solicitors as Executors of a will

Mojisola is right with regard to adding a Codicil. This can, if necessary be done at a different firm of solicitors which will just update the existing will - you also have a right to have a copy of the current will so that this can be placed with the Codicil.
Having solicitors as executors is seriously not a good idea! I have often been of the opinion that many solicitors adopt vultures at zoos such is their affinity to them and for making clients pay!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Indeed, no wonder they have a special week each year when they write wills for £10!!
This gives them the opportunity to ensure they are named as executors.0 -
Sherrie, sorry to hear about your Dad.
I was in a similar position when my Mum and Dad died within about 6 weeks of each other back in 2007. They had both named a solicitor as joint executor with my husband.
Sol was a total disaster, and the Estates are still not fully finished. We had to get in another Sol to clear up the mess or we'd still be waiting for the beneficiaries to get their inheritances.
Not sure how relevant the information that I found is to you, but you can follow the (terribly long! 15 pages!) tale here. As I said, we're still not finished, but at least most of the Estates have been doled out, just waiting on the Final Accounts now I think.
I hope that you will have an easier time of it than we did! And that you can persuade the sols to renounce their Executorship.
Good luck, and please let us know how you get on.
My best wishes to you and your family at what is a very difficult time.0 -
Thanks for all your replies. I have made further enquiries with regards to executors and probate, we have decided we will wait and see what happens tomorrow at solicitors before asking if they will renounce their position.0
