Large single transaction - do they block it?

Petmidget wrote:Yes but its hassle for you. If your card is cloned who's cares? You are not liable for the transaction. I have had 2 experiences of cloning in 12 years of card carrying, both took about 5 mins to sort out.
Whereas if my provider blocked my card everytime I spend money on the net, use it abroad, or someone miles from where I live, or for large amounts, i would be on the phone to them about once a month at least.
if that is your usual usage then it wouldn't be blocked, they block for unusual expenditures. If it only took you 5 minutes to sort each one out then you are indeed very lucky, it can take some people weeks/months to resolve the problem.
Let your company know you are going to make the purchase in advance and take the numbers incase you need them. It's not a huge problem when they phone for authorisation and it's better that you get the car not some card cloning fool!0 -

I now always telephone the card provider to inform them I am going on holiday or that I am making an unusual purchase.
Could you let me know which CC company you are talking about, so I can avoid them

I had my DEBIT card payment for a large amount blocked when buying a new car, despite going into my bank branch the day before and telling them what I was going to do. It turned out to be the car showroom's receiving bank that was blocking it and we had a devil of a job and half the afternoon in the car showroom getting it sorted out. Eventually sorted out by a 3-way conference call between me and the two banks.
BTW, if using a CREDIT card to buy a car you must agree that with the dealer in advance because they will be charged a fee by the card issuer. For a large amount, they are likely to want to pass some of the fee on to you.0
