Car Insurance : Excess Protection Insurance?!

Hi all.

Just geting the quotes ready for me to renew my car insurance and Kwik Fit (have told me) that they do an Excess Protection Insurance, meaning the £250 excess on my policy will be paid back to me in the event that I have to claim. The total amount of my policy is £280 which is in line with other comparisons.

This seems too good to be true? As this would make Kwik Fits policy waaaaay cheaper than all the others and with no relative excess?

Please let me know what you think!

I have this on my current policy, £250 back on an excess of £300, in effect making my excess £50... hopefully i wont have to use it though... i think it's another way they get money out of us... weight how much it costs over the year, to saving up for a few years to have your excess put aside... only problem with that is you never know when you'll have an accident, and you'll certainly never plan to have one!

    All together now .....

"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

I've not heard of this, but check what the policy covers. I would strongly suspect that you're not comparing like with like, and the kwik fit policy covers far less that the others you're looking at.

All insurance companies are different, and even shopping around at the big well-known names, you'll find they include different things as standard, and you pay extra for others. Typical things are courtesy car, windscreen cover, windscreen cover excess ( for repair or replacement ), legal cover, lost keys cover, European cover, breakdown cover ....... the list goes on.

Basically, you need to check that one policy covers the same as another - not always easy ! Make sure you're covered for what you need / want, and aren't paying extra for things you don't want. European cover is a good example. My current insurers cover me in Europe by default, but I'm not going to be going there any time soon - certainly not this year. So I asked them to take that off and re-quote, suddenly the quote came down to below that of a rival company I was about to switch to.

    Hi there.

The comparison to other quotes was very like for like. I never get breakdown included on my insurance unless it comes as a bonus. So I know that the £280 quote with £250 total excess is very inline with the cheapest quotes that I have received.

Now this excess protection is included in the £280 price, and from what the woman said it doesn't matter whether you are fault or not if you claim off your insurance you can then claim the excess back. Having read through the T&C's, I can't find any problems other than you can only claim once per year.

I know it looks too good to be true, hence why I am asking on here!

The excess back policy is not the problem!

You will only need it in the event of a fault claim when you are relying on your insurer to get you back on the road.

Research on others experiences with Kwik fit before buying.

Whether you get your excess back or not it's still a claim under your own policy and driving record. Probably worth it if you can't afford to pay your excess.
