Can you feed cats...tinned dog food ?

Hi there

Is it ok to feed cats with tinned dog food. Its just that its so much cheaper to buy. Please note that I love my cats:)

    I think not.
Dogs will eat cat food and it will not harm them, but cats eating only dog food do not get the correct nutrients they require.

I'm sure a cat lover will be along soon to explain in more detail, me, I only have dogs these days, and feed BARF.

I actually thought cat food, over prolonged usage, was bad for dogs.

It has a very high protein content which would lead to an overweight pooch and i'm fairly certain it isn't good for dogs kidneys either (might be an old wives tail this bit?)

Cat food contains taurine (which dog food doesn't). Cats require this for general wellbeing and a lack of it will probably make them very ill.

Bottom line is that, as loobyloo2 says, I wouldn't think it was a good idea.

Clearly not enough to care for them properly.

    That's well out of order!

The OP was asking a question to check that they were caring for them properly. They didn't say that they were feeding dog food to their cats.

dog food has a high amount of cereal in which cat food doesn't, i don't think cats can digest it. i wouldn't feed dog food to my cat.
Cats don't have owners - they have staff!! :D:p

Ignore DMG, they have issues atm, and to make them feel better they need to think they are better than anyone else.

OP although it's all about money saving, i would not recommend feeding dog food to your cat, my dog loves cat food, but it's not good for him.

lots of pet owners will recommend cheap good food so watch this space
