Hitachi LCD TV - Screen Problems

Hi all..
I have been given an LCD TV (Hitachi L32H01UA) from my Mum, but there is a problem with it...
There is sound coming out of the speakers fine but there is no picture. When you turn the TV on the colour changes from dark black (when off) to a lighter black (when switched on).
Would any of you techies know if this is an easy fix and if so a rough estimate of cost. I read something about an inverter board!!
Would love to get it working as I want an LCD TV instead of the CRT one I have but if I cannot get it repaired it will end up on Ebay !!!!

If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!

It's hard to be certain about the cause from what you describe. If you can power it on and use the remote to get the TV's onscreen display to appear very faintly, then it's likely that either the inverter or backlight have failed.
Probably the best bet is to look for spares on eBay - either by searching for the TVs make/model, or by opening it up and finding part numbers.
I don't know that specific model, but generally it's not an ~easy~ fix unless you are Ok with tiny screws and hidden fixings.0
