Nail hit firmly on head with regard to the suppliers! Its flippin Aramark. Whoever sold them the contract needs thier head testing!
Marmite27 - I absaloutely agree that there are some children that do NEED a warm meal. I have no problems with the meals at all. There is just a lot of chatter about 'choice' I think.
DCFC79 - All healthy stuff, no burgers and chips. Really nice actually, stew and dumplings, roast dinner etc
Some parents aren't happy though so I thought I would ask on here to see where they stand.
Thank you for all the replies!

http://www.aramark.co.uk/wherewework/defenceservicesARAMARK's Defence Services division has more than 45 contracts in 82 locations across the UK, employing over 3,500 people. We provide services to the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force through a mixture of contracts, either directly with the Ministry of Defence, as sub contractors to a prime contractor such as Fleet Support Limited or NAAFI or in PFI situations.
Our primary focus is on providing catering, retail and leisure propositions (CRL) in either integrated solutions or as simple stand-alone services. Our capability ranges from large multi-activity contracts, that can include cleaning and waste management as well as CRL, and extend to pest control, laundry and dry cleaning, tailoring, grounds maintenance, reprographics, supply services, housekeeping and reception services.
The Defence team was recently selected to run Junior Ranks, Clubs and SPAR shops as a sub-contract to NAAFI on its remaining estate in mainland UK. The majority of these outlets are on RAF Stations but also include a number of Army locations in the British Isles. The outlets were mobilised by ARAMARK between January and March 2008.
We believe that success is built through the development of true cooperative partnering relationships with our clients. This enables a dynamic focus on service delivery levels and value for money.
Napier Bks in July 09,the food was absolutly rank & horrible!I could've ran my car on the oil that came off the sheppards pie!Everything was bought in ready made & re-heated,leaving it dry & tasteless,Deserts was still frozen in the middle & salads limp & brown..:mad:0 -
Our youngest has a day each at two nurseries/preschools - one has no kitchen so all children bring in a packed lunch, the other has a fantastic cook so they get hot meals. The latter has always had a ban on people bringing food onto the premises to prevent issues with allergies - its always been the case and no-one has a problem with it. I guess here the issue arises partly because its a change to previous arrangements. There is clearly no law against bringing in a packed lunch, however the law does require every business (and a nursery will be a business) to carry out a risk assessment and act in accordance with its findings - so if the nursery justifies this on the grounds of allergy safety you will have a very hard job forcing them to overturn it. The other issue of course is discipline and group management - if all the kids are sitting down to eat largely the same its a lot easier to manage than kids looking enviously at someone elses packed lunch.
Clearly not the case in this issue but our kids nursery provides really nice hot food - my OH has had to ask them for at least one of their recipes because the boys say our home version of a particular meal isn't up to nursery standards! (and I know absolutely that its not because the nursery one is stuffed with rubbish)Adventure before Dementia!0 -

Aramark are diabolical, perhaps another thread shuold be used for this. Perhaps I'll start one later in the Armed Forces thread. They have imposed so many restrictions on the lads, it's disgusting!0
