Breakdown cover does my arguement hold true?

I have joint AA cover with myself and my Wife. The first year I paid £30 for just me then added my wife on later but can remember exactly how much extra it was. When the renewal came in I didn't renew and I got a phone call from the AA offering me another year for £66-00 which I took out. I have just been checking the paperwork and it turns out that I had been put on to automatic renewal which would have costed £88 per year. I rang then up and told them I don't want to be on automatic renewal. the bloke tried to tell me I didn't want to do it as the cost to renew will be higher but I thinking that when it come to renewing I will get another call offering me an even better deal or will be able to get the same cover cheaper than £88 with another company. Is my argument sound or have I just cost myself more money on next renewal?
I never used to bother with breakdown cover but I got nagged in to it.

I think you have got it right, many posters on here have got reduced renewals when phoning up and complaining. I do not believe auto renewal is cheaper.
Anyway, breakdown cover is a total waste of money
as long as you don't break down0 -
You can use Tesco vouchers to pay for AA membership.
Alternatively, go with AutoAid - £38 per year for you and your wife, driving any car. It's a pay & reclaim service - you pay for the recovery / repair when you break down, then claim it back. No problem, and you get a cheque back within 10 days. Plus you're free to use your own recovery service if you like. So if you break down, you can phone a local trusted company if you know one, or else just phone AutoAid and they'll send a local company out to you.
What's also nice, if they can't repair you at the roadside, they won't just take you to the nearest garage, they'll take you to any garage you want - so you can have the car towed to a garage near home, makes it a lot easier.
I've only had to use them once ( touch wood ! ) but can't fault the price or the service.0 -
I'll look in to Auto Aid sounds good.
The bloke on the phone was really winding me up but I actually managed to keep my cool.Nothing to see here, move along.0 -

Not AA (it's RAC)
They have a limited offer on now with Tesco vouchers - buy RAC cover before end of Jan and get joint membership (roadside, recovery and at home) for the price of single cover. Cover to start by 28/2/11.0 -
When my renewal came up with the AA a month or so ago, I phoned them up to say that I didn't want to renew as I'd got a better price with the RAC - with no effort whatsoever they dropped the renewal price by over £50!0
