RBS Credit Card - Incorrect credit report

Hi All
I am after some advise - bit of a long story so I will keep it as brief as possible.
4 years ago my DH paid off the balance on a RBS credit card telephone to cancel the card and was told a payment of Card Protection had been applied. We asked them to cancel the card protection payment and also contacted the card protection company directly and told them to cancel.
We never recieved any further statements/letters from RBS regarding this account.
Fast forward 4 years to early Dec (2010) and we check DH's credit report to see an account full of '6 missed payments' with an outstanding balance of £20 on a RBS CC
We telephone RBS and after lots of phone calls to speak to the correct people they agree it is a mistake and will amend the credit file.
We are just about to apply for a 0% credit card so logged on to check the file had cleared and although the account has been 'settled' the big red '6 missed payments' for all previous months is still showing.
As it was RBS's mistake we thought the missed payments would also be cleared giving DH a good credit report again (no other problems)
Obviously if this stays on his file for 6years we are screwed for a long long time!
What do we need to ask RBS/Equifax to do regarding this?
Any help gratefully received - thanks for reading!
ETA: Just read the file again and it is showing Date settled December 2004 Date satisfied 21/01/2005 Date Updated 16/12/2010 does that mean is should disappear next month?

Sounds like it should just drop off in a couple of weeks.
With regards to getting credit report account information changed/corrected - only the lender can make those changes - not the CRA.My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.
They are not a substitute for professional financial advice - but you knew that already didn't you?VSP 2011 - Member #25 - Started 6th December 2010 - Total As Of 4th May 2011 (21 weeks in!) - £323.67/£500 - So far so good!0 -
Banks update credit reference agencies once a month, generally. RBS have to write to Equifax and explain that it is there mistake for it to be removed, speaking to Equifax yourself won't help.0
