I am posting to see if anyone reclaiming with Halifax has also recieved a letter from them....
started the claim in October, recived SAR information in December and all went quiet. Got a letter last week stating they are sorry but there is a delay while they work on cases and if we don't want to wait they suggest contacting FOS.
should i go for it?

Hi there
This is entirely your choice, maybe give them another few weeks (if you want to) see what happens, set yourself a timescale if you don't hear nothing by then, then move on to the FOS.
There have been some news posted on this thread today about some banks being find for not handling complaints properly, this may be of some interest for you, this may actually make them think again.

That is not a delaying tactic. That is standard. You should now go to the FOS as its unlikely Halifax will be any time soon. That said, the FOS themselves are not exactly quick on this. Waits in excess of a year are not uncommon.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. oh dear...so you would advise giving it a few weeks maybe 3-4 then go to FOS

Sorry, quite a big typing error in my message. "Not" should have been "Now". As in "You should now go to the FOS as its unlikely Halifax will be any time soon".I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
