Just out of curiosity, what happened to the credit card you had when you opened your current account? Has that been closed down?

Agree with what others have said though - you need to check your credit reports to ensure that there is nothing untoward contained in them.

I had it from 2007 til mid 2009. I didn't use it at all so the bank closed the account.

I have got a report from Equifax. Everything seems to check out fine.

Only thing I didn't notice was that in december of 2008, I had 6 overdue payments that I missed when I was with abbey. Basically they tried to remove the money from my account I didn't have enough, so they tried 5 more times on the same day. The account has been fine since no overdue payments or anything.

One thing that did surprise me through was the fact that the account was still open because I had closed it in 2008 but it had remained open. The balance was £10 in my favour however.

What do you guys think ?

What were the payments that were refused for? Are they showing on the credit report?

The 3 different CRAs all hold information from different people, so just because one is fine, doesn't mean the others are. You really need to look at all three.

I believe they were for a mobile phone I had back in the day. By CRA's do you mean the overdue payments ?

Six attempts to claim payment on the same day wouldn't show as six missed payments - that would only register as a single missed payment.

I suspect that you have actually missed six payments in succession.

When you miss one payment, the number '1' is recorded. Miss two, then number '2' is recorded. And so on... Miss six and the number '6' will be recorded. Any more than that and chances are that a default would get registered against you for that account.

This reminds me of the story that in the USA you cannot get a drivers license unless you owe money to a bank - if you have no borrowing record there, you don't actually exist!

Which of course is not true.

In some States a Drivers license is available to 14 year olds, they won't have a credit record!

    South Dakota for instance.

    Completely false.

Most states allow people to drive from 16, younger in some circumstances.

So getting a driving licence in South Dakota is almost as easy as buying a machine pistol in Arizona then?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
