How difficult is it to alter renewal dates?

At present we have 3 cars in the household with 3 different renewal dates, all at soon-to-be inconvenient dates.
Car no 1 is with Liverpool Victoria, renewal date 17th September.
Car no 2 is with NU, renewal date 2nd September.
Car no 3 is also with NU, renewal date 20th May.
We will be changing one car in March, it will replace either no1 or no2 car.
Hubby is retiring in July and we will be out of the country for 3 months so will be unable to shop around for best renewal prices. Our plan for retirement is to spend about 6 months each year seeing Europe with our caravan so we will be away probably April/May/June and August/September/October most years.
Ideally we need all the policy renewal dates to fall between November and March. Is there an easy way to organise this that will not cost too much? Would we lose a lot of money by cancelling one of the policies due for renewal in September (all already paid in full) and starting a new policy in March when we get the new car?
All policies are NCD protected.

Hi there, i'm no expert but if i was in your shoes i would be talking to NU, and asking them what kind of deal they would offer to insure all three cars. then tell them you want to move the renewal date to the date when you change the car over in March.
Yes this will mean you will lose a bit on the LV cover (probably about £25 admin fee) but the rest will be paid back to you.
It all depends if you have a good amount of NCD, if so the premiums should not be to high and you are not relying on building them up (like a young driver) so moving mid way through will not impact this.
I would be looking towards one brooker, and then the following year shop around more and more insurers are offering deals for multi policys.
Hope this helps, but like you i am supprised someone on here in insurance has'nt answered your question....:j I'm keen :j:mad: The name has been changed to protect the innocent:mad: Well almost0 -
Give Carole Nash a try. I know that you can arrange car ins, bike ins and house ins to start on the same date,so I suppose they might be able to help. My bike ins was due 2 months before the car ins,so I paid a 2 month premium on the bike and then a 12 month policy to coincide with the car.
Good luck.0 -
The only way to do it is either cancel the policies early and therefore incure cancellation charges or take out short term insurance after they expire to take you up to the date that you want them all to renew on.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
