Colour gone on TV

The colour on my Bush 28" crt TV has gone funny with a green circle in middle with a purlple outer. Is this a bin job or is there anything that can be done ?.

  • Have you been near it with any magnets???? Technicians use a tool called a "degaussing wand" just get a decent magent or even a fridge magent may do it and try to drag the coloured image off the screen...

Thanks for that makingendsmeet. My wife just switched it on & it came up like that. Don`t have a magnet in the house but will try that or anything to get it fixed as it is only a couple of years old.

Definitely don't do this. It could make it worse. Most TVs have an automatic degaussing feature that activates if you switch the TV off then on.

Have you had any speakers near the TV?

Thanks all.The TV has sat in the same place since it was bought & there are no speakers near so I think I will just have to invest in a new one. My old Sony did the same thing but there was no shame to it as we must have had it at least 15 years. No they are not sited in the same position before you ask.

A TV like a CRT monitor has a copper cable running around the edge of the screen that pulls the electrons outwards (magnetic polarisation) in a regular pattern so phosphorus is dispersed evenly across the image, when an error occurs as you have said this basically means that the copper is breaking down thus not making a correct electro magnetic current evenly buy eratically, and degaussing will indeed work as most degaussing reset switches are useless.

What I said here http://www.oscarcontrols.com/degauss/index.shtml lol, no need to type the above but im leaving it be.

Thanks Spacker. Looks a bit complicated at first glance so I have printed it off & will study it. I am a sparky so I will not blow myself up.
    Cheers.

Coulour seems to have returned to normal by itself apart from slight purple tinge round the edge. Fingers crossed that it gets betteer all on its own. Strange as there has been no changes to anything on or near the tellie. Thanks to all who posted with tips.

Sorry to bore you guys.Colour has gone again. Nicky Campbell looks even worse green.
I had thought my magnetic personallity had fixed it.
  • Just get a new TV. A bush 28" TV goes for a tenner on ebay. Just limit the search to within 10 miles of your postcode and add to your favourite searches to be emailed daily when new Tv's are auctioned.
