PayPal Credit Card online access blocked (Santander Cards)

I have had a PayPal credit card for a couple of years with no problems. I am now unable to access my account online as I get a message that "You have not activated your account with us. Your account must be active to register for Online Account Manager."
I telephoned the so called help line and was told that my card was expiring "soon" (in 2 months actually) and that they were sending me a new card. Apparently for this reason my online access has been blocked until the new card arrives some time in the next 2 months and I activate it! Access will then be restored
Has anyone else had this situation with the PayPal credit card? It makes no sense to me, I cant access my statements, transactions, payments or anything else and how am I supposed to know if someone pinches the card in the post and uses it?
Cant find any email or postal address to complain to and the help line goes to some overseas call centre. Any suggestions?

Santander are having major problems since 'upgrading' their computer systems in October. There are various reports of people having incorrect late payment fees added, statements late or not arriving and (particularly with the Paypal card) incorrect minimum payments being calculated.
Losing access to the online account manager is probably just another manifestation of these problems.
The problem with their customer service line is that they will say anything to get rid of you - if you phone again you'll probably be told a completely different reason for not being able to get access.
I've found that if I phone them first thing in the morning when they've just opened (8:00 am I think) I tend to be more likely to get the correct reason for problems from them.0 -
My Paypal Cr Card runs out this month and a replacement has not arrived. I keep getting emails from my PayPal account telling me to update the details!
Phoned PayPal on 020 8181 0000 (cheaper than the 0871 they publish) and was told new cards sent 14th Dec.
As they haven't arrived, they will be cancelled and new ones will be sent in next 10 days - we'll see.
In the meantime, because they have sent out new cards I can no longer use my online account!
I have to await the new card and re-register. What sort of customer service is that?
It is quite a concern that Santander seem to taking over a lot of the UK's public accounting and seem to be out of their depth!!!!!That's a definite maybe! :grouphug:0 -
Well I called them again and got the same story. It seems that as a matter of standard policy they will cut off your online access 2 months before the expiry date of your card. You then have to wait for a new card, activate it and the access is restored.
I was told a new card was issued at the begining of January but might take up to month before I receive it
I could get no explanation as to why it is necessary to remove online access during this period. They did offer to read out to me my recent transactions and take payment over the phone but could not restore my online account access.
How on earth do the people who run these organisations justify any salary at all, let alone huge bonuses?==============================================You can use your money to save timeorYou can use your time to save money0 -

Yep, I got it too. Shame, I loved the 2% cashback on paypal purchases.
Not too impressed with Santander so far.
Will stick to my Barclaycard Cashback Card (Egg) for now.0 -
I'm currently locked out of my account too. What cashback card are other people planning to switch to now?0
