Barclaycard Contactless

Does anyone know if exiting barclaycard credit card holders can get contactless technology?
I called them today twice to see if I could get a new card with the technology in it. The first person I spoke to didnt know what I meant and hadnt seen the adverts!
The second person said that my card (which is 2 years old, as I told her) will already work with the contactless technology even though it doesnt have the logo! - surely this can't be right, this would mean barclaycard have been installing RFID chips in all thier cards over a year before launching the system!
Anyone know whather this is actually true or whether it's just another case of the call centres fobbing me off with any old rubbish,
cheers,
J

Barclaycard credit card holders do get the contactless facility on the card.
Their debit cards have too.0 -
What happens if you lose the card and fraudsters use it?
Have always wondered about this - I presume you don't enter a PIN or anything with this type of card.0 -

In a word, no. If someone makes several Contactless payments in a row, they'll be prompted to enter the card's PIN for security validation purposes. Contactless transactions are further protected by the fact that they can only be made on items totalling £15 or less. For transactions above that amount, the payee will be asked to make a Chip & PIN payment in the usual way.
Do look after your card and keep your pin secure but if your card does become lost or stolen, let us know immediately and we'll cancel and replace it for you.
Remember: should you experience card fraud, provided you report your card lost or stolen or misused, and you have not acted fraudulently or without reasonable care, you will not be liable for any fraudulent transactions.0 -

Yer but is it on new cards (and hence new accounts) that have been applied for since the contactless system was introduced or will the system work with all old barclaycards, even mine which I've had since nearly a year before the contactless sytem was introduced. This is what the call centre suggested. But I would hve thought youd need a new card with a special chip in it, no?

I would just say you have lost your card and ask them to send you a new one, which 'should' be contactless as they dont produce the old ones any more_________________________________________

Trouble is, round my way no one has contactless terminals, not even the brand new Sainsburys.Never Knowingly Understood.

Thanks Jay87 thats actually a pretty good idea.
I actually saw a terminal in a little chef of all places, somewhere near sheffield. I think they are cropping up. Especially now that the limt has been raised from £10 to £15.
Cheers J0 -
I think it depends who the business uses to supply the terminal. If they are tied-in to RBS/NatWest's 'Slipstream' (as 90% of the small business in my area are), then they will never offer contactless payment. If, however, they a Barclays business customers and their average sale is less than £15, then there would be a huge time-saving advantage in upgrading to the new tech. as they would save 2 minutes per transaction.Never Knowingly Understood.

I had an issue a while ago with my Barclays account being fraudulently accessed, Barclays sorted it out very quickly and efficiently, they sent me a new card and it has the 'contactless' logo on it.... I called them and explained why I had needed the new card and said 'you have to be kidding!?....' but apparently it is terribly safe and secure and lovely :-)
Good luck OP, go with 'I snapped it while de-icing my car' (they'll laugh of couse!) and I hope you like swiping for stuff ;-)Aiming to be debt & mortgage free by November 2018!0
