Dodgy Diplomat Dishwasher!!

Our dishwasher has died (a couple of months past the warranty period, typically). I have just paid almost £60 for a man to come round for 5 minutes and diagnose the problem. Apparently it needs a new motor which will cost "over £100 and thats without the VAT or fitting cost".
All I am trying to find out is if anyone knows of a cheaper way of repairing this item. If not, I expect we will probably just have to buy a new dishwasher.
Many thanks

you've not told us the symptoms of your machine!
did you actually pay the repair guy £60 to diagnose the fault:eek:

Unfortunately, I did!!
The dishwasher makes a knocking noise and doesnt get the dishes clean. I am sure that it probably is the motor- or am i being gullible?0 -
Crikey thats a lot of money. I would expect that to include the fitting of the new part myself.
Our dishwasher only cost us £180 brand new and delivered at the start of the year. Maybe worth going all out for a brand new one? I know you have already paid some money out but if the new art doesnt fix the problem.........."Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Yes, I think that is what we are going to do. Just before xmas its not ideal- but on a 0% credit card we can think about that next year.0

I think one of my dishwashers was a diplomat I got it from MFI with my kitchen, it lasted about 5 minutes after the warranty ran out, as it was a built in one it was'nt cheap!
I had to get rid because it would have cost loads to repair.
I got a reasonably priced on after that and will bin it when it has a major problem!
(I realise its not good for the environment but they don't give any choice with such extortionate repair bills)
having said that I have a repair man who comes out free of charge and tells me to bin things>>> HA HA0 -
That sounds like exactly what we have. Because it is integrated it cost a lot more. I think we will go for the cheapest normal one there is.
I have lost count of the number of appliances we have bought that seem to have a sensor on them to break after warranty expires!0 -
Give your local Howdens a call and give then the model number on the right hand side when you open the dishwasher door.
They do Diplomat and also have a Sale on just now.
Not sure if appliances are included though.0 -
We too have an integrated diplomat dishwasher and its now 5years plus old. It has broken down several times. A new diplomat would be available from Howdens at trade cost if you have an account or do what we did.....the day it broke we bought an insurance policy at i think £60 a year? waited a few weeks and then got it repaired......suffice to say i have an annual policy now on this machine and its more than paid for the problems we have had ! Even a hygena/diplomat service call! Great value IMO. Then again with the waiting in etc...may be best to get a better brand!0
