Hi My internet stopped working overnight (was fine when i went to bed)
I dont have an ethernet cable so cant connect to my laptop to test which is working.
My question is: should the wireless router be a visible connection on my laptop even if the modem to it is not working? (i know the internet wouldnt work but would the connection to the wireless router also go)?
Is there anyway to see which is not working - all the lights on the modem and the router are on....
I'm with virgin if that helps

Turn it off then on again and see if you still have a problem.0

Tried simply powering everything down and up again?
For the sake of a few quid, id invest in an ethernet cable, if just for testing purposes:idea:0 -
If you are near a pound shop have a look in there for a network cable.0

You do have an ethernet cable although it may be quite short - the one between your cable modem and your router so you should be able to check if the modem is working still - you'll need to power it down first then connect the laptop to it then power it up.
You should be able to connect to the wireless router regardless of whether or not the internet connection is working.
As has already been suggested the first thing to tr would be power cycling the lot. Bring up the cable modem first then the router and then try to connect the laptop to the wireless.0 -
Not always as if the router "hangs/locks up/goes t1ts up" all the lights may be on by no one is home your wireless link to the router gives up the ghost as well.kwikbreaks wrote: »

Your wireless connection to the router should still be working if its your modem. Or at least visible in connect to network.
Can you view other networks through connection icon ?
If not are you sure that you haven't accidentally switched your wi-fi off ?
Wi-fi light on/off ?
Switch and/or FN +F8 can turn it off/0n
Might sound silly, but with wi-fi its usually the silly things that cause the probs2017 WINS
