Creation credit agreements

Hi all

Not a credit card question, but it does concern a credit agreement.

My Other Half has bought a sofa on 0% finance, and that side of things is being handled by a company called Creation. As far as I knew, he'd signed all the relevant paperwork, but we recently had a letter through from Creation asking him to call to "confirm his Direct Debit", which it said was for our "peace of mind". As I understand it, he has a separate bit of paper somewhere with details of the credit agreement, and the date of the first payment on it was actually confirmed in the letter, so does he need to speak to them or not?

OH has not yet called and is unlikely to do so in a hurry as he's hugely busy at work and I tend to deal with finances. However when I called Creation they refused to give me any information and would not even tell me if the call was essential to the agreement or not. They said they could only provide that information to him.

My OH also had a hunch that the call was probably unnecessary and would involve selling (insurance or similar things we don't want), so does not really want to speak to them but I am a bit worried - is this something that could mess up our 0% finance? It's really unclear from the letter and they won't tell me anything! Help?

It's not unheard of for people to give the wrong bank details. Since the system is hopelessly crude, this results in a mandate being set up on the wrong account and money being taken from the wrong person and the borrower being in immediate breach of the agreement. A double-check should be mandatory really. If that's what they're doing, good for them.

Fair enough. Well I've put the wretched thing in front of my OH and the phone more times than I really should have done already, so I'll point this out to him once more and hope he takes the hint!

I still think it's annoying they wouldn't just tell me the reason for the call when I spoke to them, though
  • I purchased a bed with Dreams 12 months ago on a 12 month free interest option. However, I had to pay the whole amount of the bed on 20th february. Unfortunately I over looked this payment and was 5 days late. I rang immediately to pay the remaining amount which was £100 as I had already paid £922, to be told that I had incurred a charge of £431 and if I didn't pay it within a month I have to pay £983!!!

Can you please offer any advice regarding this matter? Surely they cannot charge me with this extortionate amount with just £100 outstanding 5 days late?

    Kind regards
