Chest freezer consumption - does this sound right?
Have recently bought an elctricity monitor. Have been monitoring my old chest freezer for 3 days now and it says I have used 6Kwh - does this sound high?
I notice some of the new models in argos use 250-350 kwh per year, whereas mine is using around double that?
any help appreciated

Depends where it is situated I would have thought.
I have a large chest freezer(Bosch 7/8 years old) in the garage(warm in summer, cold in winter)
In the summer it used 8.5kWh in a week. I am currently monitoring it now the cold weather has arrived, and will let you know.0 -
Mine is in garage too, so would be interested to see your reply!0

They also need regular defrosting (and I don't mean regularly every 4 years  ) as the build up of ice reduces efficiency.
My new chest freezer has a variable temperature setting and is very efficient (can't remember the figure off hand) but I soon realised that efficiency is only achievable at the lowest (warmest) setting, so I'm a bit disapointed. I can't complain though, all those BOGOF's and special offers have saved me a fortune.

Winter consumption is 6.41kWh in a week - so 0.9kwh a day.0
