Hello!
I'd be grateful if someone could help me please...I'm having issues getting sound from my machine:eek:. I have installed Linux, and as we speak I'm using it. It's hooked up to the T.V. using the VGA cable, and the sound by microphone jack style lead, that goes into three coloured jacks:D.
I've had a previous one (a while ago) hooked up like this and didn't have any problems (running on W*****s).
I had a look for sound drivers using the system but it says there are no proprietary drivers????
Any help would be gratefully received, as I've managed to get some nice software for the kids installed, it even copes with BBC iplayer, and it runs just as well as W*****s for general use; it would be nice to have sound too, that would make it perfect.:D
Thanks in advance...

have you actually tried some normal PC speakers or even some headphones pluged into the back of the PC instead of the jack to phono leads you are currently using?
not exactly the most techie test but if you can get sound out of normal speakers (or the headphones) then it wouldnt be drivers for your system and is more likely a setting on the TVDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Hi
Check that the sound isn't set to 'mute'.
Right-click on the speaker icon on the toolbar.Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -

Unfortunately, I haven't got any pc speakers...and can't find any headphones...but if I eventually find a set of headphones in the house, I'll give this a try - thank you .😇 Sealed Pot Challenge: Member No: 20: 2012 = £92.14; 2013 = £45.27; 2014 = £54.70; 2015 = ; 2016 = £70.38 2022 = £10.58 2023 = ???? 🍀 2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD 65/365 so far. 👾 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 🍀 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 20120 -

Thanks. I already checked that
, it's definetly not on mute. I have found out the motherboard title etc. (that's in the evesham Pc), so I'm going to do a bit of research...The reason I thought it might have been drivers, is the previous pc, had worked fine this way.
Just a bit confused...
Thank you both very much for your replies...😇 Sealed Pot Challenge: Member No: 20: 2012 = £92.14; 2013 = £45.27; 2014 = £54.70; 2015 = ; 2016 = £70.38 2022 = £10.58 2023 = ???? 🍀 2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD 65/365 so far. 👾 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 🍀 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 20120 -
Sorry to be stating the obvious , but which source do you use for the TV (eg PC....) whiich tv is it, but probably is because the output from the headphone socket should go into the line in socket on the TV next to the vga socket on the telly ie 2.5mm jack socket ie small jack plug on each end. Using the rca sockets is probably for one of the other sources on the TV eg Ext 2/3 . If the PC has a S-Video socket then use that to the S-Video on the telly and the red and white RCA's into the RCA (phono) sockets on the telly for the same S-Video inputs.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . As an afterthought .... do what I did yesterday, PC video output to TV via VGA and RCA (phono) output to Hi-Fi Aux in sockets.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed 5.07 + Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy

This is the way it's set up now...no sound been on other forums doing research, people with a similar problem. I was trying to get away with just £10 to get it up to scratch to do basics. I'm wondering if I can get a carbooty sound card, or an ebay special, like this:

Would this solve the problem?😇 Sealed Pot Challenge: Member No: 20: 2012 = £92.14; 2013 = £45.27; 2014 = £54.70; 2015 = ; 2016 = £70.38 2022 = £10.58 2023 = ???? 🍀 2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD 65/365 so far. 👾 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 🍀 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 20120 -
Have you checked the settings in System/Preferences/Sound? Use the Hardware tab to select the relevant type of speaker set-up then the Input and Output tabs to select the relevant output/input. If for some reason I was to unplug the 5.1 speakers on my desktop the system does not auto-detect them when I plug them back in and I have to manually select them as the output. If I don't I get no sound. Ubuntu/Mint both come with a relatively full set of sound drivers and you should find a suitable setting selection in the Hardware tab. This may be your problem. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).

Thanks HO87 I had a look at those earlier, I can have another play though...:D I just assumed it might be a driver problem, as sometimes when you do a clean install on Windows, you sometimes have to get drivers for certain things.
As you can tell I'm a newbie to Linux :rotfl:...let the learning commence
Thanks for everyones' help so far - I just hope I can get it sorted...😇 Sealed Pot Challenge: Member No: 20: 2012 = £92.14; 2013 = £45.27; 2014 = £54.70; 2015 = ; 2016 = £70.38 2022 = £10.58 2023 = ???? 🍀 2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD 65/365 so far. 👾 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 🍀 The Other Way, or the MSE Way: My Personal Challenge 20120 -
oh the headaches of evesham pc's lol
i got mine from woolies when they were closing down (£20 no less :P) i tried putting all manner of linux variants on, mint, debian, ubuntu, fedora, suse and they ALL refused to work with the onboard sound.
i spent so long trying to fix it i decided to go back to windows, but that too decided it was going to be funny about drivers.
after much arguing with windows 7, that thought that the drivers i were giving it were incorrect, it finally decided it would play ball, then the caps decided to pop, so it wouldnt work at all then
I never figured out how to solve the linux problem, and i found a tonne of info over at ubuntuforums (since both mint and ubuntu are basically the same) but nothing worked.
