Broken TV - Fit for Purpose

That's interesting... what size is yours? Mine is a toshiba regza 40 inch.
That seems a bit strange that the tv repair man couldnt tell if it's the inverter or the screen? The guy who is looking at mine says he will be able to tell which it is by I think checking the voltage when the fault is occurring, or something? He said it would be about £140 in total to fix, including diagnosing the fault, so £125 seems a reasonable price if it is the inverter.
I believe from my research it's Comet you would need to contact. You would need some kind of engineers report stating that it's beyond normal wear and tear and that the components in the tv have started to fail before they should do (i.e. in less than 6 years).0 -
Do not have total faith in the repair man that was sent, he did not even suggest it was the inverter that had gone wrong until i suggested it. I know nothing at all about tvs, it was only through the help of friends researching for me on the internet that i found out about 'inverters'. It does seem on a lot of sites to be a common problem with toshibas.
The repair man at first said it was the screen, even though he had not tested a thing. The back was not even removed from my tv! He said that there was equiptment to test just the screen, but mobile repair men do not carry this equiptment.
My tv is 37 inchs and slightly older than yours, its 2 and a half years old but i still feel that for £750, more should be expected on its lifespan. I really cannot afford to replace this at this moment in time, so if there is everything to try, i really am going to try!0 -
sorry, thanks for the help on who to contact first and advise on getting the engineers report0
