Camera with good night/low light photos

Can anyone recommend a camera available for £125 or less that takes reasonable quality night photos?

I was recommended this camera by my friend who records music videos (he's done a few biggish names; bowling for soup, the veronicas etc.) who bought one for his girlfriend who takes photos of said bands and just general photography really.

It's £140 on Amazon but can be found cheaper elsewhere - I think as low as £120 or so - but I linked to here as it has a number of reviews you can read over to see if it suits your needs. It seems to be excellent for taking photos in low-light conditions.

The key to quality night photos is a sturdy tripod or other support, rather than any particular camera.

Any camera that will give a long shutter exposure, therefore, and get a good tripod

I purchased that exact camera in December when it was a bit cheaper and had to send it back as there were numerous things wrong with it. I'm reluctant to get the same one again as there's a risk that they produced a batch of faulty cameras.

That's only any good if the subject is still enough for a long exposure, the OP hasn't said what the subject matter is, and without that it's difficult to advise.

Ideally you want a wide aperture lens, and a large sensor with low noise at high ISO setting. All cameras are a compromise in one or more areas, and the more detail you can provide the better people can advise.

I'm just really after a camera that can take pictures of generic night scenes without producing very poor quality pictures. I have a Kodak Easyshare 6.2mp at present and that's far too poor quality at night although good quality for day scenes, which I imagine is partly because it was a relatively cheap camera.

You need.. a tripod and a long exposure time.
