Boiler has packed in...

i just got home from a week in cuba and turned off heating while away, its been on since august and working fine.
House was freezing when i got home and turned on combi to constant.
Mch howling went on, so loud that the house vibtates.
Much sptuttering when turned on kitchen taps to boil kettle and water initially black, some kind of airlock seemed apparent.
Had boiler on and off all day, more howling each time, no heat to rads and no hot water tho water is running fine now through taps, but cold.
I know you guys cant fix it and i need to call a plumber, but my questions are;
Is there something simple i could do to resolve (maybe) that I am unawares?
Will there be a big call out fee?
What do you think might be wrong and how much it gonna set me back?
I'm tired and freezing....
Please help if you can, any advice????

That would indicate that while you were away the main water supply had been turned off.
You need to check that you have enough water in the heating system.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Weekendwarrior thanks so much for that link.
The pressure had dropped to zero and I've just fixed it.
Been up all night by fire, can finally go to bed now with heating on full!
Thanks again.0
