Hi all
During the xmas/new year break I went shopping at the local out of town retail park. There is no p&d, its just free parking up to 4 hours for shoppers.
I dropped off my wife and went for a little drive elsewhere for half an hour, then returned to meet her. Being xmas time, it was very busy, and I drove all around the large car park 4 times, for around 25 minutes, looking for a space, to no avail. Several spaces were full of piles of ice/snow so the car park was smaller than usual.
My little boy, 3 years old, was getting pretty upset and of course we needed to collect mummy. So, after witnessing several other cars doing it, I parked on a patch of soil/chippings at the end of the car park.
The car was well out of anyone's way, but nevertheless I can see that I was technically wrong, however felt I had no choice as I had a distressed child, had tried and tried for 25 minutes, and had to find my wife.
So.... I returned to a "ticket". The reason for issue is "parked on double yellow lines" and "abused patron parking". Neither is really true, there are no double yellow lines, and although I parked in a "non-space", I did go and shop and spend money at the retail park, which I do weekly.
I have not replied yet, and was going to try an appeal on the above grounds however advice here seems to suggest I should just ignore everything and they'll go away! I can't really afford it to escalate tho. If it makes any difference, I have since sold the car so at least they can't take any action next time I visit in a different car.
Do I ignore, appeal..... or pay!?

1. Ignore
2. Ignore
3. Ignore some more
4. Do not call
5. Do not write to them
6. Sit back with a glass of wine/beer/fruit juice/mug of tea and get on with your life.
You do not have a ticket. You have a speculative invoice. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
You ignore, it's a simple as that!. Yellow lines and all other markings have no relevance on private land. So you have not broken any laws. They will soon lose interest in you. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

and expect a few nasty letters threatening you with court, CCJ's, bailiffs, distrainment of goods, castration, etc.
all wind and bluster.
'do not make contact' is the constantly repeated advice found here and on other sites.
totally ignore.0 -
Thanks all, good advice and I'll take it.0

"I dropped off my wife and went for a little drive elsewhere for half an hour, then returned to meet her."
I'm surprised Parking Spy hasn't try to hit you with a charge for returning within X hours of leaving, some retail parks do that.
It's a free car-park so the total loss to the landowner is zero0 -

Total loss is zero, so no consequential loss, any penalty charge is therefore likely illegal, so ignore them.0
