2 night stay in Edinburgh

Hi all! My boyfriend was one of the unlucky people trapped in a train for hours a few weeks ago & as a result the train company have provided us with a couple of free train tickets, so we have decided to visit Edinburgh. I have never been to Scotland before so would like a bit of hotel advice please, we will be doing some sightseeing bits, definitely the Castle & hopefully a whisky tasting sesh! I would also like to be near the shops in the city centre. We have quite a small budget of £50 (for the room) per night, I have seen the Best Western Edinburgh City Hotel which I think might be the best option, but could anyone tell me whether this is near enough to the main attractions (and whether its a nice hotel?!) or if not where else might be an option? I do not want to stay in a hostel and would like at least 3*s (don't want much huh?!)
Thank you in advance for any info. :):)
Oops, would help if I told you when I am going! 20th - 21st of Feb.

we stayed at the travelodge on belford road which was within easy walking distance of town. have a look at the edinbugh passes for sale online too they saved us a good bit of money on attactions and the castle is also cheaper if you book your ticket for there in advance . there are also lots of nice B and B's there, try beresford crescent and that area. have a lovely time!!0
