the never to use them ever again was down to their customer service rather than T&C's - hiding behind T&C's in a case like this i find heartless, if i was trying to avoid making payments then fair enough but this is obviously not the case.
It's not a repayment loan. They aren't interested in whether you're reducing your balance. They'd rather you didn't.

But late fees are how they make money from 0% deals. You've walked straight into a carefully laid trap. If they let everybody off, it would be a pointless exercise. It's a game - on both sides.

Overpaying on a 0% deal is pointless anyway.

They are not hiding behind T&C. You made an error based on an incorrect assumption.

You may have been well intentioned in what you were doing but it was still your error.

Unfortunately the customer tries to be clever when all they should done was set a a dd for the min amount. I have a promo offer at moment and a dd is set up to take the min amount each month. I never, never have had problems with MBNA but some customers just complicate matters.

I've never had problems with MBNA nor have had to complicate matters with a DD. I just pay what I want to pay before the payment date. I always pay at least a little more than the minimum to avoid the min payment flag on the CRA reports.

Hi Biker-Budgie - I can sympathise - accidentally paid my Egg card early last year. Unfortunately, you shouldn't just be concerned about the charges as the late payment (and any subsequent ones) will now be on your credit report. As others have said and you readily admit, you can't argue your case based on Ts&Cs etc because you are 'in the wrong' (as I was). What you're after is some good will from MBNA. I found phone-calls unproductive with Egg despite talking to some very nice people. Try writing a polite letter to their Customer Service Dept emphasising that you acted in good faith, you've now signed up for DD so it will never happen again etc. etc. I was lucky and it worked for me!

Thats your way but obviously it does not work for alot of people. If it did then there would not be so many complaints on this site about receiving late fees etc.

Direct debit is the way forward!
