You do not need permission from the local authority (who administer Housing Benefit) in order to move. What you do need to do is inform them promptly of any change in circumstance, which would include a change of address. Your claim will then be reassessed to incorporate this change as the amount of benefit you receive may vary.
When you are looking at private rental properties to move to you might want to find out the rent figure that will be used when your Housing Benefit claim is reassessed. You can find this out by visiting www.hbupdate.com, a postcode is required.

Did you sign a contract with your landlord? If so, you might have a problem with him if you wish to move out early.0
