Hi
I was thinking of getting Yahoo Messenger. Really only to notify me of emails, but when I went to download.com I notice that the latest version has a huge amount of negative feedback.
I did notice that version 5 is available at oldversion.com
Any advice on the pros and cons?
How much resources does messanger take, if it slows things down a lot I'd probably prefer just to check for mail the old-fashioned way

Have you considered the Yahoo Toolbar? http://toolbar.yahoo.com/
IIRC that has mail detection.
I myself use Trillian to connect to Yahoo Messenger and that can also check mail for Yahoo (and Hotmail at the same time).

But I use Firefox.
Trillian looks quite good - I'll check it out0
