Just bought mine yesterday and very pleased. Have updated successfully but am having trouble with region free. I find that when I press 'menu followed by 1 and 9' all I get is the 'no entry sign'. I do power on from the remote after switching on from the mains. Where am I going wrong?Mecoconuts wrote:Just bought 2 of these players from WHSmith for £17.49 each.
They are marked up as Half Price was £69.99 Now £34.99 but ring through the till at £17.49 !!!
They play DivX/Xvid and can be made region free. (see below)
Here's details for it :

There's also a firmware update for it also here :

To make Region Free :
1. Power on from the remote (not from the unit)
2. Press "menu" then "1" then "9"
3. You will see a grey box with a number. Press Enter until it displays "0".
4. Switch off and on again.0 -

Are you pressing 1 and 9 together? If so, press them one after the other0 -
No. One after the other.0

What about doing a factory reset and trying the key presses again?0 -
Hi All
Hoorah. --More haste, less speed!!!!.
All I had to do was to wait for the refusal sign for each key stroke, and hey presto. Many thanks again for a superb buy.0 -
Just bought one as a present for my niece - at a small WHS not mentioned on Chesters' list (well done for that list!), so it may be worth ringing round. As Chester says, lots of shops will have one or two or display models. I had seen these a while ago but presumed they were not any good because they were so cheap. However, I think this is the same thing on Amazon and there are 23 (recent) good reviews. Thanks OP.

But instead of this we actually ended up getting the Cyberhome DVR1600 DVD Recorder instead. These are stickered as £84.99 reduced to £70 but actually scan at £49.99.
I got the Cyberhome DVR1600 DVD Recorder from ASDA just over a year ago and it worked fine until one week after the year was up. It now does not wake up to record programs that it has been set for but it still works if you use the record button.
The annoying thing about this machine is that when you turn it on it goes straight to the DVD menu and you have to use the Source button to scroll through to the TV input each time. If you want to hit record in a hurry you have to frantically press buttons. ASDA previously sold them at around £65.0 -
you bunch of illegal pirates!!!
i can say the same for myself, ive got over 500 movies in this formatSave saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -

The one I bought on Saturday is waiting to go back as it now refuses to play any dvd's what so-ever, so not the bargain I thought it was.0
