if I were to apply for the MBNA Rate for Life credit card,

how easy would it be to transfer my wife's A&L MBNA credit card balance to the new card or would it best for her to open up an MBNA Rate for Life in her own name with my name added (I earn more than she)?

Grateful for any advice.

Makes no difference that it would be a debt in her name transferred to a card in your name. The lenders don't care - as long as you aware that it makes you legally responsible for the debt of course.

Though you cannot balance transfer from one MBNA card to another MBNA card regardless of whose name it is in. If your A&L card is issued by MBNA then you either need to find a different provider to BT it to, or consider doing a super balance transfer to a current account - though this may not qualify for the rate for life deal, and the BT fees are usually more.
