Odd Car radio Fault not solved by New Headunit

I have a 1996 P reg corsa. Nice car apart from the radio. It powers off if i:
1. Go over a pot hole (this can vary, sometimes will stay on, sometimes not)
2. Turn a sharp corner
3. Drive for more than 4 miles
Odd, i know. Sometimes it will power back on but most of the time it will stay dead. If i restart the car 70% of the time it comes back on.
Fitted a new headunit and went over pot holes fine but powered off twice. Had to re-start the car 3 times for it to power back up, and now, the preset radio stations get lost (a problem i didn't have before).
So, just spent £45 to put a new headunit in which is actually worse (pre set radio stayed on my old one) and pretty annoyed.
Difficult to get to a garage and don't want to spend a fortune but it drives me mad when i'm sining along then the power goes off, then on, then off (you see the point).
Any idea's what it may be.
If you need more info just ask!

Loose electrical connection somewhere.
Try moving wires around to find exactly where the poor connection is.0 -

Boyfriend has done that twice. Which is why i bought a new headunit as he ruled that out since he's been through them all. Unless there is something he could miss.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
theres defo a loose connection somewhere. if its losing power ground wire loose somewhere, ignition, 12v supply. without a multimeter you can look at the wiring all day long and not find anything, unless tested properly with a meter. is popping the fuse in the fuse box? when it goes off. and not storing presets when the ignition is off is a wiring set up problem, usually you get a yellow to yellow in the wiring spaced with spade connectors, same with th red wires, swapping those over may cure, refure to installation guide some manuals will show you a diagram on how to do that. as for off on problem it could be further down the wiring than you can actually see. but you will need a multimeter set to Volts and test all the wires going to the stereo, the sterio itself should have the wire colours and voltages on it just match them up fiddling with the wires slighlty to see if the voltage goes down then back to specification.
autoleky (a mobile one if your constricted to get the car to one) should source the fault no problem.0 -
The wireing was messy when I got the car, but don't know much. IF I were to take it to a garage would it be a long job?I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

Now, i may have half solved the pre-set radio station problem. If i turn the power off before turning off the engine the stations are remembered. Is this normal? my other one didn't have this problem.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0

No, that is not normal.misssarahleigh wrote: »Now, i may have half solved the pre-set radio station problem. If i turn the power off before turning off the engine the stations are remembered. Is this normal? my other one didn't have this problem.
Did you notice Atrixblue's suggestion in post #4 about how to it may be possible to overcome this?0 -

That's impossible to say without knowing what the problem is.0 -

swap your red to red and yellow to yellow wires as mentioned, so you have a yellow to red and a red to yellow thing going on, this will solve the losing stations issue.0 -

So he has had the fusebox out and checked the ones at the battery?0 -

I did read, but bit above my head so was going to get the bf to read it as he will understand no problem lolswap your red to red and yellow to yellow wires as mentioned, so you have a yellow to red and a red to yellow thing going on, this will solve the losing stations issue.
Thank you, will get him to do that this weekendSo he has had the fusebox out and checked the ones at the battery?
Unknown! I walk inside and make a cuppa lol
I can do my oil, tyre etc but electricals is not my thing (ironic considering my family are electronic engineers lol)
It is driving me rather barmy at the moment. If it was one thing that it was i wouldn't mind but how the hell do i know the power off when turning the wheel? I was reversing today and as soon as i turned the wheel right round off it went. I don't understand how my steering is effecting it on one hand, then i can drive in a straight line for 4 miles and it dies's it's death.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt.
