I may be a little controversial here but after baby number 1 I never bothered with cotton wool, straight onto wipes and I used Johnsons top to toe wash from day one too, or the cheaper, similar Sainsburys one! Number 3 will be lumbered with a dish cloth if I'm not careful ;-)

I have bought two small packs of number 1's for this one as I tend to have big ones, 9lb 9 at birth and 14lb at 4 weeks so all I remember is not buying many packs of 1's or 2's!

How many you get through depends on bottle or breast fed too, breast tend to explode after most feeds, note less. I am also a Mummy that doesn't change the nappy at night unless I need to , none of this change after every feed stuff for me, sleep in the early days with 2 other boys to look after is more important and none of my children have had sore bottoms, other than around teething stage, which is common.

Do not go overboard with Sudocrem it lasts for ages! I still have 2 tubs from last time! It goes a log way!

Anyway, there's my input for what it's worth :-s

good luck all with babies and good luck with the heart scan, hope all goes well.

Thanks for this, I have a 7 week old and need to stock up more :)

I would add that I went through 4 packs of pampers size one, Sam was born at 7lb 7oz and used cotton wool and water for the first 4 weeks incase of allergies to wipes. I gradually started using wipes and am now 100% wipes, going through a packet of them every 3 days offer will definately be used. One piece of advice I was given is that not all nappies are suitable for all babies so pampers size one may not fit the baby as well as huggies size one!
  • To new Mum's I'd recommend getting in a pack of the Pampers Baby Care Mats. We found them fab for protecting the seat of bouncy chair etc from explosive nappies (used to cut in half - only need enough to cover bottom area). One explosive nappy can leak right through all clothing and you have to then wash all covers too!

Also, if you're planning to breast feed, 1/3 off a tube of Lansinoh saves a fortune!
  • Should have said - I wouldn't leave a baby lying for any length of time on the Care Mat as is sort of plastic backed and I guess they could potentially overheat. We just used a small piece under bottom area when sat in chair.

    Ooooppsss,
I Really do have lots of stuff ready for 1st baby due early March.
I have about 15 packs of size 1, 20 of size two and about 10 packs of size 3!!! lmao

I have about 40 - 50 packs of wipes too!!! lol

Ah well, rather too much than not enough!!
Got a little carried away, took us well over 8 years to conceive so had been waiting a while to start shopping.

Good luck thoughts would be appreciated for Tuesday, having a specialist cardiac scan on baby as heart irregularities were noticed last midwife appointment. :o(

Good Luck all you expectant parents xxx

Thinking of you. A baby is a gift, and you have waited long enough for yours. Good things come out of bad sometimes (our first three pregnancies ended in miscarriage, the 4th brought the most wonderful little girl in the world). I hope with all my heart that your scan on Tuesday brings good news.

Anyway, enough of that. Practicalities...buy wipes till they are coming out of your eyes, and the Johnson's night time range is amazing (bubbles or wash for the bath & lotion for a cheeky massage before bed) x

Absolutely. It's normally £9.99, and rare to find this on offer anywhere except these Sainsbury's events.

Definitly stock up on lansinoh (?sp) and bepanthen as they are star products. Also cotton wool pads I found better than balls as the balls get stuck on wet bums. Goodluck with all the babies x

for you ladies that are expecting, this offer also includes maternity towels, breast pads, lanisol cream etc so think of hospital bags and yourself as well as the new arrival
They also do these offers every three months or so so really no need to go overboard as it really is a regular thing.
Also with regards to nappy cream etc. I spend a fortune on those and still have a big pot of zinc and castor oil and draplone unopened as he never had nappy rash at! You get a small pot of sudocrem in your bounty pack which will do for emergencies, Im still using this now 8 months on!
My boy is nearly 9 months so will be using this to stock up on Ellas Kitchen pouches which we use for long days out etc and organix snacks!!!

Didn't realise the Lanisoh would be on offer, was wondering wether the half tube from breatfeeding my daughter would still be ok as it's so expenesive but sooooo good! But since she is 4 I think I'll just keep it for my feet!! LOL!

Completely agree, we use the mats on top of the cushioned change mats for when 'accidents' happen.

Oh and for other items, if you're breast feeding, you can never have enough breast pads :)

Congratulations and all the best for those mums to be out there!
