Refund regarding purchase of curtains!

Yesterday my parents purchased a pair of curtains to a value of £127.
The curtains were on display in a lower floor room of a building and were therefore not exposed to normal light exposure.
Once the curtains were put up against the window at home the colour did not match the decor of the room and the following day they were returned within the original packaging to the store. A credit note was offered but a refund was refused.
The goods were paid for via credit card.
Are the store right to refuse a full refund.
Thanks in advance

Yes, unless the store has a specific policy that says that it gives refunds, or if there was something wrong with the curtains (ie. that they were faulty), then offering an exchange/credit note is perfectly acceptable. It was your parent's responsibility to check that the curtains were suitable before they bought them. Sorry.0

They did well to get a credit note, they were under no obligation to give one.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Agree with McNeff, the curtains were not faulty so no refund (or even credit note) due.0

I think the fact that a number of shops, such as M&S, Next, Primark etc give refunds 'just because you change your mind' give consumers a misconception about their rights to refunds.
Unfortunately Robertscazzy, the other posts are correct and your parents have no rights to a refund in the circumstances you describe.0
