Transferred from NTL to BT...Help!!

I migrated from NTL to BT on 6th Oct (took advantage of an offer to get option 2 for the price of option 1 for 12 months, meant signing up to an 18 month contract) but it has been a complete nightmare....one aspect of the troubles is that I keep getting bills from NTL eg advanced rental for Oct - Nov, then threatening letters after I cancelled my direct debit with them, yet every time I call them to complain they refuse to acknowledge that I am no longer a customer, saying that BT has yet to formally notify them that I am no longer a customer. I have spoken to customer services and disconnections about this but they tell me the same story.

I have called BT and explained the situation to them but they state that the fact that NTL have released the line to BT proves that I have been correctly migrated over and by implication, BT have notified NTL.....so how will this ever get resolved?? If I continue to get bills from NTL (incorrectly), and refuse to pay them, I am concerned that my credit rating may also be affected.

Help!!!

AAUI, your credit rating can only be affected if they get a CCJ against you.

To do so, you'd have to be summonsed to the County Court and, providing you are prepared* (you have recorded details/kept copies of letters sent, dates and times of calls made and names of those to whom you spoke etc.) there's no chance a judgement will be made against you.

I'm afraid this sort of thing appears to be typical of NTL's incompetence (but you probably know that and that's why you left).

*The best evidence, should you need it, will be your first BT bill - which will show the date you started paying THEM for the line rental.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I would make sure you inform NTL in writing. Keep the letter short and to the point, avoid emotional statements. Ask for a final bill. Send it signed for. Keep copies of everything. They may not bother to respond but you will have fairly and reasonably informed them and it would be very helpful in court.
I had a similar problem with BG several years ago. I finally served a Subject Access Request (SAR) having failed with the letter route, they soon sorted the matter out and the threats of court!

SAR: basically you request them (NTL) to provide a copy of all the information they have about you. You can also prevent them from automatically processing data about you, ie stop automated court threat letters etc see here:

One thought, I assume you have not transferred before the end of any fixed periods in the NTL contract?

Hope it doesn't come to SARs and Court, but best for you to have a watertight case, a written letter will help.
