Wild bird food, sunflower seed etc

Also in Pet Care...

I've been buying sunflower hearts loose at my local farm shop for £1.90/kg, and black sunflower seeds at 85p/kg. Does anyone here buy in bulk, and what is a fair price for a big (say, 20kg) sack? Is it best to bulk buy online and pay delivery charges, or from a retail outlet? I'm a long drive from a retail park so it needs to be worth the diesel to go for bird food, though if visiting Pets At Home, Wickes or Focus DIY I could probably get cat litter at the same place, and shop at Lidl on the same retail park!

I think that this company has pretty good prices and p&p is free over 10kg.
Of course you would need indoor space or weather proof and rodent proof outdoor containers to store the larger amounts

Don't get them from PetsAt Home. We got some and they were a big waste of money - did not contain the kinds of things the birds will eat. I get mine from CJ Wildbirds: www.birdfood.co.uk

I used to buy the 20kg sacks of wild bird seed from Pets at Home, but now they've put their prices up & there aren't any free delivery codes about. I've since had a look around & found a 20kg sack cheaper at http://www.vetuk.co.uk - £9.10 for a 20kg sack + £4.99 postage

I buy from RSPB online, but storage can be underestimated

I bought mine from Charnwood mill - think I paid about £12 for a big sack of it.

http://www.charnwood-milling.co.uk/wildbird.htm is the bird page :)
