Things to do in Murcia in April

I have booked (what I hope will be) a nice cheap week to Murcia over the Easter holidays.
We normally go All Inclusive and so I'm keen to budget for this holiday as we are going self catering for the first time.
Has anyone been to Murcia and can you recommend anywhere to visit for days out etc? I can't find a waterpark that would be open that time of year. I have found the Terra Natura zoo which we could do for a day.
If anyone has any recommendations on how to keep the costs down on a self-catering holiday please let me know. It will be for 2 adults and 1 child aged 12.
Thanks.

A car is advised as there's not much there (mum's BIL lives there 9 months of the year). Largest town is Cartagena and Alicante isn't too far away, but facilities for family holidays aren't numerous.0

Whereabouts are you staying? If you are close to Murcia airport (Mar Menor coastal area, rather than Murcia city which is some distance away) there are plentiful wonderful beaches. It's a nice area. If you are around for Easter itself there will be parades in Cartagena and Murcia which are really worth seeing. For water parks etc. you would need to get 1.5+ hours north towards Benidorm I think. The coastal resorts around Murcia aren't the lovely unspoilt Spanish towns they were 20 years ago (it is all golf resorts these days), however, it is still much less built up and commercialised than the main Costas and a nice place for a holiday.0

We are staying around Mar Menor, and there for the easter holidays, so that you very much for the information on the parades. These should be lovely.
I can'f find any waterparks open at that time of year, but would travel 1.5hours (maybe) but not sure it will be warm enough. Will have a look.

Here is a link with basic info on the parades. I am not sure where you are staying but if it is somewhere like Los Alcazares then you are about a 20 min drive from Cartagena. Cartagena is worth a trip in its own right. They developed the Marina area a few years ago and there are some pleasant cafes on the waterfront. The old part of the town is nice for shopping etc. e.g. Zara, and there is also a nice El Corte Ingles Department Store.
For a week you'll probably find enough to do locally if you like the beach and/or have a pool. The beach on the Mar Menor is lovely - the water is really warm/shallow and the beaches are clean. They are my favourite beaches in Spain.
If you go inland there is a national park Sierre de Espuna which I went to for the first time this summer. It is really lovely and something quite different but the drive is very steep and winding. It is just acres and acres of pine forest.0
