Yeh external laptop dvd writers are next to nothing these days, and most will just connect to the netbook via one of its USB ports. (do check connectivity type though incase the one your looking at uses firewire or something other than USB).
Something similar to http://www.ebuyer.com/product/232581 would do the trick but you can probably get them cheaper than this as well (its just an example)[FONT="]Information is provided as a guide only. She wouldn't be impressed by this, even though it is technically a disk drive

Why does she want a (presumably optical) disk drive? You could just share the optical drive on another PC on your network if necessary...0

I'm not using Windows at the moment (so this is from memory), but if you open Windows Explorer from your main PC, right-click on the DVD drive, select Properties... and there should be an option to share the folder/drive... I think there's a "Sharing" tab...
You can then put a CD or DVD in the drive on your main PC and see it on the netbook - just browse the Network Neighborhood (sic) and it'll be in there. You can install software, listen to music; do whatever you want, just as if the drive was attached to the netbook directly.
Hope this helps...0
