The restaurant at the Grosvenor in Shaftesbury which is a very beautiful town in it's own right. Stunning views and very pretty little houses.

The restaurant is rated very highly by trip advisor. And by me :) The bar is gorgeous and the food in the restaurant is stunning.

  • Hi

I live about 10 mins from Warminster and have been to eat at Bishopstow a couple of times, I would def recommend it for a 'splurge' meal, the food is lovely and they've recently refurbished the dining room which is gorgeous!

We did go to the Tutankhamen and Terracotta Army ones and enjoyed them although I think people should be made aware that they a) are very small - just a few rooms and b) only contain replica items - the blurb is a bit OTT.

Having said that, we thought the replicas were very good (the half a dozen full size terracotta army figures were aparently made by the people in China who are also working on the restoration of the originals) and well presented (the Tutankhamen has a complete replica of the antechamber as it was when discovered by Carter).

I think we must have had some sort of 2-4-1 offer or similar as I only recall them costing a few quid in admission.

We went to both exhibitions but, though interesting, we thought they were both a bit pricey, (only spent about 30mins in each).

Yay! We had a wonderful meal there. Loved the bar with all the quirky artworks and the food was great. Many thanks for the tip-off....never would have come across this place without your suggestion!

Sadly, we didn't have time for a visit this time after all but we did drive past it a few times and it does look nice.....have it earmarked for next time....maybe even stay there....!

Also Shaftesbury is quite a nice little town and also boasts the famous gold hill, where the hovis advert was filmed. Test your legs out by taking a walk up it.

Yep...walked up and down it 4 times trying to get the perfect photo!

Just popped back to say a big 'thank you':T to everyone who helped with suggestions...we had a great time! :j Sadly there was not enough time to do as much as we would have liked though. The Warminster Travelodge was great, (especially for £9 per night!)...recently re-furbished so all new fixtures and fittings and spotlessly clean.

There's also the New Forest. You could include a visit to Hythe to travel the historic pier railway and take a boat trip.

We spent a whole day in and around the New Forest, went to Lyndhurst & Hythe was nice tho we didn't do the railway or the boat trip. Went to Brockenhurst Church to see the 1,000 yr old yew tree.
