When I had mine done in old house (5 years ago) to a condensing one it took three days, first day swapping over then electrician came and had to fit a isolator switch and then a power flush, could be done quicker of tradesmen worked together though possible 2 days

    The sequence was:

RGI brings his builders, disconnect the gas, decommission, dismantle everything. Fill in the old holes, resinstate some tiles, wait for the cement to dry.

Another day, RGI comes, leaving his assistant to do the Power Flush, and changed the TRVs and lockshield valves too.

Another day, the RGI turns up with a guy "working towards RGI certification", leaving him to do the pipe work.

Another day, we put the boiler and water heater in, then the RGI realised the boiler doesn't have its own pump, so out it comes, and redo the pipe work.

Another day, the boiler is in, some testing, followed by the builders re-instating the wortop. They forgot a support panel, on the difficult side of the floor standing boiler, so the worktop sags. We manage to put something in so it's supported properly. Finished around 21:30.

The next day, the tenants came back.

So, five guys took five days, over two weeks, plus me rushing out to get parts to get it done. If I insist on all of them being there for three days solid, we could have done it in three days.

The problem is, you can't have people standing around twiddling their thumbs, while one guy gets on with his bit. Assume £20 an hour, seven hours a day, that's 20 x 7 x 5 = £700 a day! Three days for £2,100+VAT for labour alone!
  • Further to my last post. I have now found another guy to replace my boiler for £350!!!

Furthermore, he is a Vaillant accredited engineer and will be able to extend my 2 year warranty to 5 years after all works are complete.

Just goes to show, you can find a bargain and avoid the rogue trading prices with a little digging.

For the person asking if I would hire a doctor/lawyer etc of Myhammer -I am not even going to waste my time.
