Debenhams claim hot feet damage shoes - Not faulty?!

I bought my daughter some boots for Christmas costing £55. After a couple of brief wears the insole in one of the boots had become completely detached exposing a paper/cardboard inner.
It had become impossible to put the boots on without the insole becoming pushed forward.

I took them back today and was informed by a manager that this was not considered a fault but something that happens when feet get hot!!
I asked for a refund and was told that I could buy them back at a reduced price - 'no thanks - I'd like a refund' I said. She still insisted that it happens to all boots when feet get hot!
I remained calm and eventually got my money back but am still baffled by their explaination.

Never had anything like this before in Debenhams, but make sure you have very cold feet if you're thinking of buying any boots from Debenhams!;)

The ironic thing is that my daughter is currently taking medication for chillblains so her feet are far from hot!!

All CS and Retail Managers now have to take a degree in B*llsh*t before getting the job ! Well done for standing your ground !

It amazes me that big retailers think that selling carp and then refusing a refund will keep customers returning !

Fashion footwear is so badly made it's outrageous! I'm a bloke, so get military surplus boots (less fashionable I'm sure, but I can't tell!) boots which last absolutely years - although they do take some breaking in!

Well the refund has now paid for a pair a DM's, not as good as when they made in Britain I know but still better than fashion boots! Better still, my daughter loves hers when they look old and battered so that's another bonus.
Personally, I'm not altogether convinced they look good with dresses and skirts but it's the look she's got and she's very individual so I'm not complaining!

I'm glad you stood your ground. It's amazing what shops come out with! The 'not fit for purpose' argument is usually a good one in such situations. I've had this happen to me once with shoes and did get a refund without a problem. My feet are always cold so, like with your daughter, hot feet certainly wasn't the problem :-)
