Digital Camera for <£70?

I'm planning on going on an extended holiday and would like a cheap point and shoot camera, ideally for less than £70. Since I know nothing about cameras I don't need it to do a dance every time I turn it on, I just need it to take half-decent snapshots. I should probably also add that I primarily use a Mac, so something compatible with that would be good, but if not that's okay.

I have come across the:
Panasonic Lumix DMCFS42EBS 10.1MP from Argos at £60
Canon A3000 IS 10MP from Argos at £67

Both of these have rechargeable batteries, but it doesn't say whether they can be charged in-camera or if they come with a separate charging block thing. I'm not too fussed about the camera having a rechargeable battery or needing AAs, although I'm inclined to think that the rechargeable might work out better value.

Does anyone have any opinions on either of these? Or any others?

The Lumix takes better quality pics. Can't comment on battery life though

  • Decent camera's really are cheap. I can't remember the exact model I got my mum about a year ago, but looks like this one and around the same price, so I reccomend this:

    Samsung ES17 / 12.2 Megapixel / 3x Optical Zoom / 2.5 inch LCD / Digital Camera / Black - £54.29

You can also get cashback from topcashback. If you don't already use topcashback then I can PM you my referal if your a kind person :D

But the camera itself is very good. The resolution isn't professional quality, but it's very good quality and can handle a drunken drop :D

I'm not sure that's true. The Canon, which I have has better features such as optical image stabilization and generally seems to do a good job (just needs the sharpening setting changed). The battery seems to last a long time before recharging as well. The Lumix is an entry level model. I imagine there's not a great deal of difference in picture quality but the optical image stabilization will reduce fuzziness.

Have you tested both of them?;)

On this occasion, I would say that the Canon is the better buy, it has a far better spec.

Thanks everyone. I've done a side-by-side comparision on here and it seems like the Canon does have a better spec, or at least slightly higher numbers, and has the image stabilisation.

    Any other advice or opinions?
