Laptop just died. Any ideas why?

    Thanks. I have downloaded both and can see, in conjunction with another site that I found last night, how to go about it. Will have another try later on.

    (Is there anything that cannot be found on the Internet if you only know the best search term?)

    You could try carefully sucking out the fluff with a vacuum cleaner.

    Funny you should say that - we did vacuum it yesterday before trying to open it (we have one of those sets of tiny tools to go on the end of the hose) and it worked after that for long enough that I chose to turn it off rather it fail. When I get a chance (read interfering teenagers out of the way) I am going to start it, attached to the printer, so that with luck I might manage to print off something that I cannot get otherwise, and I will see how long it goes for. It is normally very quiet so it is hard to tell, but I had the feeling that the fan wasn't working. Isn't it odd that as soon as something goes wrong you can't remember just how it was when it was OK??
