Hello
My mum has been on dla for about ten years due to a mental illness and she is coming up to 65 this month.
Just read that dla is only for under 65's so what happens now?
also what are the future plans for this benefit, I read something about dla being changed to an independence allowance. when is this happening and will everyone currently on dla have to go through medicals and put in a new claim etc?
thank you for any help

This will give the answers to some of your questions http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/disabledpeople/financialsupport/dg_10011731 and as for the changes the government are still debating this and who knows what they will decide or when it will come into being... but make no mistake change is coming in a big way... sorry to not be more hopeful..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

As long as she still meets the criteria, she'll continue to receive DLA after 65.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

OP - It is actually that you are unable to apply for DLA once you turn 65. If you are awarded it before you turn 65 then your award will continue. The loopy one has gone :j0
