acer charger packed in or battery

my acer laptop is not charging its 2 1/2 years old, still in good shape. But for some reason it seems to be not taking a charge

the battery lasts on average 10 mins now, so we have it plugged in constantly which doesn't bother us.

now the charge box plugged in shows a green light, but plugged into the laptop it doesn't seem to do anything as when its plugged in it normally has a light on the edge of the laptop and the battery icon has a 'plugged in charging sign' but this isn't happening

the computer has cut of stating 'critical battery power' recharge now

whats your guess is it the charger that has burnt out, or do i need a new battery I'm gueeing even with a dead battery, plugged into the electricity my Acer should still work

looked on amazon charge is £16, Battery £30

do laptop charger boxes burn themselves out

  • for the first few years i would use it until the battery run low and then plug it in, in the last year the battery dies farely quickly so i just plug it in continually
  • from what it sounds like both have gone.

i find that acers (ive had a few) wires tend to break inside the cable close to the jack that plugs into the laptop, especially if you use it on your lap, you move a lot more than you think lol.

after 2 years of (possibly) constant 100% charge i would say that the lasting only 10 minutes is about right and is well overdue for a new one.

like others have said, i usually unplug my laptop and let it discharge before plugging it back in and letting it charge to 100%

gl in the hunt for a good deal :)
  • I have a 5 year old ACER whose battery is useless now. It used to last for around 2 hours, then this came down to around 20 minutes after 4 years so I decided to forget it. I probably did not charge it in the optimum way, and I should probably have removed it when plugged in, but it is too late now. It does not seem worth getting another battery as I have a small, very portable (ACER) netbook and if necessary I can go to my library and plug the big ACER in.
